New York born, Haitian American Ashley Innocent moved to Hartford when she was 6. Throughout her younger days she was always crafting and creating away. Art class and art clubs was definitely her favorite things to put her energy towards. After giving up her lunch period all through high school just to take multiple art classes, she graduated and continued art at Community College at Tunxis and the University of Hartford, majoring in graphic design. But, soon enough, found herself listening to her inner pull to more physical materials like acrylics, clay, pastels, spray paint. (She’s still works digitally from time to time, but not often.)
Growing up, and even presently, her go-to genres for books and movies were always Sci-fi , Fantasy and Adventure. You can see how this has influenced her work and practice. Â She enjoys playing with color and texture with her works so the results always come out as beautiful renderings of her inner world in a surrealistic style.
During her mid 20’s she decided to really go for what she wanted and limited herself less. She currently works with different types of work surfaces. Surfaces like mirrors, monks cloth, walls, etc.
Now at the ripe age of 26 because she has come to accept her desires to expand, explore and play with whatever lights up her mind.
